Living lifestyle

In 1987, the United Nations Bruntland Commission defined sustainability as “Meeting the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their needs.”If the world’s ever-growing population is to spend years peacefully and happily with the next generation, it must adopt a sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle.

It is simple to create a WhatsApp status about saving the environment, but actions speak louder than words. Sustainable living can become your personal philosophy; simply follow these simple steps to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.

  1. Save Energy –
    • It is simple to remember to turn off the fan and lights when you leave a room, but most people are too distracted or distracted to do so. It will take a few attempts to return to the room, but each time you do, you are an unsung hero.
    • Switch to clean energy sources such as solar power, which does not pollute the environment and is also renewable.
    • LED bulbs are 80% more efficient than fluorescent bulbs and do not contain any toxic elements. Switching to their usage results in long-term energy and financial savings. Only 5% of the heat produced by LED bulbs is wasted; the rest is converted into light.
  2. Adopting the 5Rs mentality-
    • Refuse- As a responsible citizen, you must refuse to use any substance that harms the environment. If this sounds too complicated, start by refusing plastic bags at the grocery store.
    • Reuse- There is no harm in reusing items that have not yet worn out. This could be anything from shoes to clothing to gift wrapping paper.
    • Reduce- Reduce and limit your use of things. It could be as simple as turning off the water when brushing your teeth to save water.
    • Recycle- When newspapers, plastic, metal, glass, and fabrics are recycled, they can be converted and remanufactured into something new.
    • Repurpose- Finding a new use for something, such as using sweet boxes received during celebrations for storage or glass bottles for decoration.
  3. Transportation tricks-
    • Purchase an electric car, which emits no emissions and thus reduces your carbon footprint.
    • Take public transportation, carpool, or split a cab fare. Not only will you save the environment, but you will also save yourself from the boredom of driving alone or going alone; interesting conversations can be brewed on the road.
    • Use CNG for your car because it is cleaner, smoke-free, and reduces pollution by emitting fewer gases into the atmosphere.
  4. Responsible Shopper-
    • Carrying your own cloth or paper bags every time you go shopping.
    • Carrying a metal bottle rather than purchasing packaged drinking water.
    • Books are a great example of being at ease with the idea of purchasing second-hand, pre-loved goods.
    • Choosing a bamboo toothbrush over a plastic toothbrush has a much smaller environmental impact.
    • Ditch the fast fashion trend and invest in classics that will always be in style by purchasing brands that sell long-lasting apparel and accessories. Support an ethical fashion brand that gives back to society and cares about the environment.
  5. Mindful food consumer-
    • It is difficult to give up a non-vegetarian diet if you have enjoyed it since you were a child, but becoming a vegetarian or vegan could be a wonderful gift to Mother Nature because the emissions are lower, which is beneficial to climate change.
    • Avoid food waste at all costs; cook and eat only what you know you will consume. If food waste occurs, compost it and feed it to the soil.
    • Consume organic and locally produced foods. Learn about the history of the food you eat.

Living sustainably is not difficult; it allows you to live a more rich and more purposeful life. Knowing that you are looking at the big picture qualifies you as an environmental champion, which Mother Earth desperately needs right now.
