7 tips to nourish your skin this winter

Skincare is of utmost importance throughout the year, but more so during the winters. This is because, in winters, the skin becomes dry and itchy and you face many issues when you do not take good care of it. Thankfully, there are some simple and inexpensive ways in which you can care for your skin this winter. Read on to know more.

  1. Drink lots of water – The main reason why your skin becomes dry is lack of moisture. Since the atmospheric moisture is low in winter, you need to drink a lot of water to ensure you are well hydrated. This will keep your skin healthy and make it look soft and supple. As you already know, drinking water is the easiest thing to do and requires no extra effort! So ensure you have a lot of water to keep your skin healthy during winter.
  2. Use a good moisturiser – You skin will need some extra moisturising in winter. The skin dries out very fast and so you need to apply a good, oil-based moisturiser. It is a very good idea to apply an overnight moisturising cream or lotion at bedtime every day. You can also apply the moisturizer before you go out and after your bath. Natural oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil and mustard oil also work as excellent natural moisturisers. Use the option that you are most comfortable with and keep your skin healthy.
  3. Take short showers – A long and hot shower may seem very tempting in winters but you need to avoid it at all costs. In fact, winter baths should be short and brief. Hot water and soap wash away the natural oils from your skin and this further dries it out. This is the reason why hot baths should be minimised during winter. As soon as you finish your bath, apply a thick layer of moisturiser on your entire body to ensure the lost moisture is replenished.
  4. Exfoliate your skin regularly – During winters, your skin dries out and there are loads of dead skin cells that need to and removed. Exfoliating your skin is thus an important winter skincare routine. Ideally, it needs to be done on a daily basis, but if you don’t have the time for it, make sure you use an exfoliator at least once a week. This will help remove the dead cells from the skin and will make the pores open, which in turn will allow the moisturiser to penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin.
  5. Don’t forget the sunscreen – The summer sun is harsh and we all use sunscreen lotions for protection. The winter sun is soothing but it causes the same damage to your skin as the summer sun! So while you bask in the glorious winter sun and enjoy the warmth, do not forget to add the needed amount of sunscreen to the exposed skin. This will keep it safe even in winter. Choose winter-specific sunscreen lotions that are easily available in the market these days.
  6. Avoid alcohol-based cleaners – Do not forget to change your cleansers during winter. Most cleaners are alcohol-based. Alcohol further dries out the skin and so must be avoided in winter. Replace your regular cleaners in winter with oil-based cleansers. Using them will help you to remove your makeup and clean your skin and in the process will also supply some added oils to your skin.
  7. Protect your lips – Your lips are extremely sensitive and the lip skin is very thin and tender. As a result, it chaps very quickly in winter. Take very good care of your lips. Special, oil-based lip balms are available. Use them generously. Also, try using oil-based lipsticks in winter to offer extra protection to your lips. Chapped lips are tremendously uncomfortable and look terrible as well. Keep your lips moisturised and look and feel beautiful.

Follow these easy tips and you will have soft and glowy skin all winter. Dry, unhealthy skin is common in winters and it causes tremendous discomfort. You can avoid your skin from becoming dry by just keeping the points mentioned above in mind. Give them a try and see a noticeable change.
