Tips for home gardening

Starting a garden from scratch can be a fulfilling and rewarding experience. You can opt to have a kitchen garden, a floral bed or even a mix of various decorative plants to enhance the beauty of your garden. Due to the increasing levels of pollution, having plants that purify the air quality inside and outside our houses has become essential. Having a garden in the house offers a lot of benefits, one of which is to have a piece of nature in your reach.

However, if you’re new to this journey, the prospect of starting a garden can seem a little difficult but it’s not too complicated also. If you can break the process down into easy steps and at your own pace, it won’t feel too daunting a task. The following steps will serve as your guide to starting your garden from scratch:

  1. Decide what to plant:
The first step to starting a garden is to decide which type of plants you would like to have in your garden. You can have a combination of seasonal flowers, decorative plants, herbs, or vegetables. Seasonal flower plants need to be replanted every year since once they bloom they tend to dry out as they survive for shorter periods of time. Having a combination garden will look stunning but will require a little more effort to cater to the different variants of plants.
  2. Choose the best spot for your garden:
Most varieties of plants require longer hours of full sunlight to bloom properly. But there are a few plants that should not be exposed to sunlight for long. The indoor plants need little sun exposure and are good to go, but too much sun can cause damage and stun growth. It is better to create your garden on a flat surface as it will help you cater to them easily also make sure to have a water resource near to your garden.
  3. Get rid of the weeds on the ground:
Clear the ground and remove the weeds as they tend to extract all the nourishment from the soil which will stunt the growth of your plants. Put compost to make the soil fertile and water it regularly to prepare the base for your plants.
  4. Choose your plants and start planting:
It is important to be clear in your mind about the variety you want to plant in your garden. Get prior information about the plants and how to take care of them. Choose plants that can tolerate heat if you live in a hot climate.
  5. Add mulch:
Adding some mulch around all the plants to block the growth of weeds and control moisture loss so you have to water your plants less. Weeds are harmful to the growth of the plant as they spread rapidly and extract all the nutrients from the soil.

In a nutshell, home gardening can be successful with the right knowledge and guidance from the experts. By preparing the right soil, selecting the right location, and suitable plants, you can grow a healthy and beautiful garden in your home. With patience and constant efforts, you will see a piece of nature grow in your garden which will feel very rewarding at the end of the day.
