WFH During a Pandemic

Currently, there are many people across the globe who are working from home. The pandemic has restricted travel and so going to the office every day isn’t an option. While working from home has its own perks, it also has caused many problems such as a fall in productivity and excessive stress. However, these problems can be combated if you follow some self-discipline when working from home. Here are some handy tips for you:

  • Have fixed work hours

Start off by fixing the work hours for yourself. Just because you are working from home, you cannot afford to work extra or work less. Make a timetable and stick to it. Have a login and log out time. Also, have a fixed lunch break time. Stick to your schedule and do not budge from it, as this is one of the main and the most important ways to maintain self-discipline when working from home.

  • Dress up

Dressing up formally, in proper office attire, is a very important thing to do during this pandemic. If you just slouch on the couch with your laptop while staying in your pajamas, your productivity will fall. You need to get up in the morning, shower and wear proper office clothes to get into a disciplined frame of mind. Also, being presentable is beneficial when you have to attend a sudden video conference. You can just switch on the camera with joy having to fix your appearance at the last minute!

  • Take scheduled breaks

As stated, maintaining a schedule helps. Apart from the lunch break, you should also incorporate other, timely breaks in your schedule. For example, you can take a five-minute coffee break at 11 AM, a ten-minute break at 4 PM, etc. Get up, walk around, attend to your kids and then get back to work. Unless you have breaks, you won’t be able to focus on your work properly and you may even end up getting up several times.

  • Create a workstation

Do not just slump on the bed with your laptop or carry your smartphone to the kitchen. You need to have a designated workspace where you can set up your device. Sitting upright with proper back support is essential for your health too. So sit in the right place in the right posture and you will be able to work in a disciplined manner when you work from home.

  • Don’t skip meals

People tend to ignore their health when they work from home. They are casual about their daily schedules and do not even eat their meals on time. Do not get lackadaisical about this. Unless you eat your meals on time, you won’t feel healthy and won’t be working in the most productive way.

Follow these tips and you will be able to work in a disciplined, productive and less stressful manner when you work from home till the pandemic ends and normalcy returns to the world!
